Lock 11 on the Murray River


Typifying the calm, leisurely atmosphere of the region is this must see location in Mildura.

Easy to access and with ample parking, Lock 11 is the perfect place to explore and relax in.

Take a stroll around Lock Island, wander over to the weir on the other side or just set up a picnic on the grass and wait. Soon enough a paddle steamer or houseboat will meander its way along and you’ll get to see the lock system in action. It’s a little piece of history, well preserved and still functional and reliable as it raises and lowers the river for the boats to pass.


The paddle steamer itself is a fantastic experience, spend the afternoon relaxing on the waters of the river and let the sights and surrounds of the scenic locale come to you while amongst the comfort of an on board cafe. The journey is steeped in history of the area and the experienced tour guides can let you in on all the secrets with expert commentary.

Best visited around this time of year as the months warm up, Lock 11 offers the perfect relaxing Sunday morning or afternoon.
