The Mildura wine region has a perfect climate for the growing of grapes and a long history in doing so. It has flourished into an exciting wine region renowned for affordable and quality drops, and you can sample some today.
There are plenty of Cellar Doors in the region of Mildura, with over 40 wineries ranging from boutique to large-scale, and they’re the best place to access the award-winning wines produced here. Being the second largest wine region in Australia and producing approximately 20 percent of the national crush means there’s something for everyone.
The region is best known for its Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. New and emerging varieties include Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Viognier and Pinot Gris.
There’s also plenty of wine related events to check out year round. Keep an eye out for the November Mildura Jazz Food and Wine Festival and the Australian Varieties Wine Show held during Melbourne Cup week.
