The tranquil Merbein Common

One of the best camping spots near Mildura is the popular Merbein Common. A beautiful spot on the banks of the Murray river for free camping.

Just 20 minutes from Mildura city – this spot is a favourite with locals and visitors alike for it’s fantastic bush camping.

Merbein Common encompasses diverse landscapes including riverine vegetation, billabongs and small patches of Native Pine. Hardy Black Box and tranquil River Red Gums are abundant along with many fish, birds and animals that utilise this vegetation for protection and shelter.

There is something very serene and calming down near the river at the Merbein Common. Vicki K has captured it beautifully at sunset. Thanks for sharing Vicki. :) Cheers Jodie

The perfect place to spend a couple of quiet days, enjoying the natural bushland and lake. You could fish and go bushwalking and relax with a campfire by night.

Fish include Golden Perch, Murray Cod, Redfin, Yabbies and the introduced European Carp.
To fish – if you are over 18 years of age you must hold a current Victorian Recreation Fishing Licence (RFL). Fishing in the Murray River requires a NSW RFL.
